CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Monday ordered notice to the state police to file a response on September 22 on the pleas by Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) to conduct the procession in the state.

Justice GK Ilanthiraiyan passed the direction to police on hearing a batch of writ petitions filed by RSS members seeking a direction to the state home secretary and police DGP to permit the members of Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) to conduct the procession (Route March) wearing their Uniform (Dark Olive Green Trousers, White Shirt, Cap, Belt, Black Shoes) lead by a musical band.

The judge passed the direction after hearing the submissions of the state police that they will take a call in connection with the petitions of RSS members on September 22.

According to the petitioners, while all other states are allowing the RSS’ to carry on the route march with their traditional uniform, TN is not allowing them.

“The respondents are granting permission to conduct public meeting, procession to various other political parties and other organizations and only with regard to the RSS, the respondents are prejudiced and acting against their interest and not granting any permission,” the petitioners said in their affidavits.
