Couple, son held for poaching wild boars using country-made bombs

Investigation revealed that Sahayanathan (52) had poached animals with country bombs.

COIMBATORE: Forest officials in Kotagiri on Saturday arrested three members of a family for poaching wild boar for meat using country bombs.

The trio was slapped with a penalty of Rs 75,000.

Acting on a tip off that wild boars were poached with country bombs near Club Road in Kattabettu Forest range in Nilgiri Forest Division, a team held inquiries and nabbed the trio.

Investigation revealed that Sahayanathan (52) had poached animals with country bombs.

Following a search, the staff seized 20 kg of wild boar meat that was kept in the fridge in his house.

Officials booked Sahayanathan, his wife Jasmine Mary and son Fernandez (25) under Wildlife Protection Act. They were slapped with a fine amount of Rs 25,000 each.

Officials also lodged a complaint with Kotagiri police to probe how they sourced explosives.
