CHENNAI: Alleging that the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu is deteriorating, AIADMK leader and former chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday claimed that 15 murders were reported across the state in the span of just 36 hours.

"People are in panic mode after seeing the State, that has become the ground for murderers. During the last 36 hours, a total of 15 murders were reported and all are well-planned ones", he said.

Pointing out that Chief Minister M K Stalin, who had recently claimed that he is directly looking after the police department, Palaniswami said "Is this the way he takes care of his department?”

Claiming that police have not taken any action even though some victims, who were murdered, have complained that they have death threats, the AIADMK leader said "The Chief Minister, who controls the police department, should be held responsible for these murders".

Listing out various murder incidents across the State including in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Madurai, Vellore, and Krishnagiri, Palaniswami said people are in a state of shock after seeing these crimes.

"Once Tamil Nadu police were compared to Scotland cops and now the law and order could not be controlled,” he said alleging that a situation has arisen that the police department has become incompetent.

The AIADMK leader also urged the DMK government to take effective steps to stop murder, robberies, sexual harassment, and the selling of drugs and should ensure the safety of the people.
