Maximum temperature to soar by 3° C for next two days in TN: RMC

The maximum temperature is expected to soar at least by 2-3 degrees Celsius for the next two days, said the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai. On the other hand, south coastal of TN is likely to get rains till May 5 due to atmospheric circulation over TN region.

Chennai: At least 11 districts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai airport recorded 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.7 degree Celsius) on Sunday.

The maximum temperature is expected to soar at least by 2-3 degrees Celsius for the next two days, said the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai. On the other hand, the south coast of TN is likely to get rains till May 5 due to atmospheric circulation over the TN region.

“When the state received wind from South to East, the temperature remained normal. Now, the wind pattern changed, and we are getting westerly wind which led to an increase in the maximum temperature by 2-3 degrees Celsius above normal for the next two days,” said P Senthamarai Kannan, Scientist E, RMC.

On Sunday, five districts of Tamil Nadu recorded 40 degrees Celsius, of which Vellore with highest maximum temperature with 42.3 degrees Celsius (108 degrees Fahrenheit), followed by Thiruthani 41.9 degree Celsius, Trichy 40.7 degree Celsius, Kancheepuram 40.2 degree Celsius, and Karur with 40.2 degrees Celsius.

And at least six districts reported 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.7 degree Celsius) - Erode 39.4 degrees Celsius, Chennai airport with 38.4 degrees Celsius (101 degrees Fahrenheit), Madurai and Salem recorded 39.2 and 39 degrees Celsius respectively, Dharmapuri 38.2 degree Celsius, and Thanjavur 38 degree Celsius.

Meanwhile, due to downward atmospheric circulation over the Tamil Nadu region, south coastal and interior districts are likely to receive light to moderate rains till May 5. The official said, "Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea due to strong wind expected to blow at a speed of 40 kmph to 50 kmph over Southeastern Bay of Bengal and South Andaman Sea."
