Chennai: “Steps were taken by the States through Central government to make both doses of vaccination free,” he said.

Pointing out that the free vaccination drive was welcomed by all types of people, the AIADMK leader said, “At present, another variant of Covid was identified. Experts predict another wave, which was also indicated by the State health minister. To provide additional protection to the people, the government has announced that the booster dose will be available in private hospitals for those above 18 years for Rs 375 per unit.” He added that most people, especially in the rural areas, were limping back to normal from the pandemic situation. “Paying for a booster would add to their burden,” he averred. “People are expecting booster shots to be free at all government hospitals. Tamil Nadu could achieve the vaccination coverage for more than 10.38 crore people only because it had administered the dosage free of cost.” He urged the Chief Minister to consult with the Centre and start the booster vaccination for free. “Or, utilise the State finance and bring out a scheme in this regard,” he said.
