6,000 dogs in integrated Vellore district to be given anti-rabies shots

A total of 6000 dogs at the rate of 2000 dogs each for Vellore, Ranipet and Tirupatur would be given anti rabies vaccines, Vellore collector A Shanmuga Sundaram announced on Monday.

He was talking to the media after going around the Vellore veterinary dispensary at Makhan, with various animal husbandry department officials including the regional joint director Dr. J Navaneethakrishnan and corporation health officer Dr. Chandrasena on the occasion of the international anti rabies day. Calling on the public to utilise this opportunity to get their dogs vaccinated against rabies and thereby prevent people being affected by rabies if bitten by dogs, he also said that efforts would be made perform birth control operations on stray dogs based on the directions given by the animal welfare board after the formation of animal birth control committees at the corporation, municipal, town panchayat and village panchayats levels shortly, he said.
