Though details were sent to the Crime against Women & Children Wing (CWC) headquarters, the summons were issued by either local police or Cyber Crime unit in every district, sources said. “They will summon those involved in viewing and sharing child pornography and take action, including registering case under Pocso Act, against them,” a senior CWC wing official noted.
“Not only in Tiruchy, summons will be sent to all those in Chennai and other parts of the State who are suspected to be viewing child pornography,” police said adding that physical addresses of the IP addresses were taken with the help of Internet service Providers.
The IP addresses of the child pornography viewers were initially sent to Tamil Nadu police by the Union Home Ministry. The State police issued a warning following reports that Chennai topped the list of people watching child pornography in India, which had the highest number of viewers.
It may be recalled that in October, a CBI team had raided two houses in Chennai for allegedly being part of international WhatsApp groups in which videos and pictures of sexual abuse involving children were circulated.
The CBI team carried out searches at the houses of Vinoth Kannan of Padmavathi Nagar, Selaiyur, Chennai and Khozema H of Ebrahim Saheb Street, Mannadi, on Tuesday, after registering the case. During the search, the CBI also claimed to have recovered a lot of pornography material from one of the accused based in Chennai.
