According to sources, the Highways department in a bid to reduce vehicular traffic in the area, resorted to install barricades to streamline the route, but the move was condemned and nearly 100 people protested in the middle of the Vellore-Arani highway.
The protesters stated that the central barricade will make it difficult for them to reach their localities as the barricade placed no provision for a U-turn. The crowd dispersed after the police assured that they would ensure that the officials did the needful.
