Giving Seer Varisai is practice followed in Tamil Nadu as per which household articles and other items will be placed in a plate for exchange between families and relatives during marriages.

“Though a huge financial outlay can only be met by government funds, we hit upon the idea of encouraging locals and even alumni to contribute to their alma mater,” Mars told.

“The idea implemented nearly a month ago has till date seen 400 institutions out of 2,828 government elementary, middle, high and higher secondary schools benefitting from it,” Mars added.

Items provided by locals included water cans, jugs, tumblers, cupboards, books, mugs and other essentials like public address (PA) systems.
