Selfie in the backdrop of fire garners flak

A couple has come under criticism for posting a selfie in the backdrop of a burning hotel in Dubai on New Year

 The couple had posted a picture on Instagram with a message, ‘Happy New Year My dear Dubai. May God bless you and keep you safe, you always surprise us with the biggest fireworks’. 

The post fuelled a range of reactions that condemned their insensitivity. Some of them took to Twitter to react to the post and said, ‘Lol -more like #stupidselfieoftheyear - the other stupid one was the couple taking selfie with Dubai fire in bg’ . Another sarcastic post said, ‘Ok stop already with the selfie couple at the #DubaiFire . They aren’t firefighters, what should they do? Enjoy the fireworks, take pictures’. 

A major fire broke out at the Address Downtown Dubai Hotel located near the towering Burj Khalifa. At least 14 people were injured in the incident.
