"The attack occurred at around 10:10 p.m. local time and the rocket struck the Wazir Akbar Khan locality in Police District 10 of the city," witness Farouq Shah told Xinhua news agency.

Casualty was unknown yet.

He said the foreign embassies' sirens were heard shortly after the rocket landed at the fortified area.

The rocket struck near a traffic circle between Afghan Presidential Palace and the US Embassy but the area is not open for the public and no one knows what is happening there, the witness added.

Further details about the incident are still forthcoming amid the absence of any official statement.

No group has claimed responsibility yet for the attack but the Taliban insurgent group routinely claims responsibility for such attacks.
