The deceased was identified as S Tamilselvan (40) of Nehru bazaar in Sivaganga. He was allegedly having an affair with the mother of the accused, A Arunkumar (23) of Thevar Nagar in Okkur. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Tamilselvan, who was working in the hospital pharmacy as a temporary staff, continued his relationship with the woman even after repeated warnings. Irked over this, Arunkumar stabbed Tamilselvan in his stomach, killing him on the spot.

The accused was nabbed soon after the incident and the police recovered the knife from him. Sivagangai Superintendent of Police T Jayachandran inspected the scene of crime and held inquiries. Sivagangai Town police have filed a case.
