Woman railway officer robbed of Rs 1.5L, jewels by a ‘known man’

A 54-year-old woman officer in Southern Railway has complained to Peravallur police that she was robbed of Rs 1.5 lakh and seven sovereigns by a known person in her house on Monday.

The victim Elpes Rani is a Superintendent of Commercial Department in S. Railway and the suspect, according to the victim, is one Murali Krishnan.

Police said Elpes Rani was in Italy for two years, on a loss of pay, to pursue her doctorate. After she returned six months ago, Murali Krishnan allegedly approached her claiming to be Railway workers' association deputy secretary and promised to get her salary for the two years when she was in Italy. Believing him, Elpes Rani reportedly gave him Rs 50,000 on November 26.

However, Murali Krishnan reached Elpes Rani's residence at GKM Colony on Monday morning and demanded more money. On suspicion, the victim inquired Murali Krishnan, but the latter allegedly attacked her and escaped with Rs 1.5 lakh cash and seven sovereigns of jewellery. Based on her complaint, Peravallur police registered a case and are searching for Murali Krishnan.
