Woman, granddaughter drown in pit in Pudukkottai

A grandmother-granddaughter duo drowned in the water filled stone quarry pit at Keeranur in Pudukkottai late on Thursday.

P Rani (50) from Maringipatti village near Keeranur went to take bath in the quarry pit on Thursday evening and her granddaughter Nathilasri (7), accompanied her. The girl who was playing near the pit slipped into it and started to drown. On seeing this, Rani went to her rescue. But both of them drowned.
