According to police, Durgaiammal (50), wife of Ammasai from Udumalpet, had visited the house of her relative at Sanjeevi Nagar in Pannimadai near Thudiyalur here on Wednesday to attend a condolence function and stayed there overnight.

“In the middle of the night, she woke up to attend nature’s call. When she opened the grill gate to go out, she was electrocuted. On hearing her screams, M Ravi Kumar (26), a relative, rushed to her rescue, but he too suffered a shock and was thrown away. They both died on the spot,” the police said. Following the incident, the other family members snapped the power line.

Ravi Kumar was the grandson of Palanisamy (70), who had passed away on October 15 and the relatives had gathered at the house for his condolence function, according to the police. On receiving information, the Thadagam police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem at Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). The police are investigating the incident.
