In a swift follow-up action, police intensified vehicle checks across the district and arrested three persons near Cheyyar in connection with the murder. The trio confessed of having killed the whistle blower.

Police said, the whistle-blower was identified as Dinakaran (35), a car driver and son of Subramaniam of Kilipattu village near the town.

Dinakaran on Thursday afternoon was chased and hacked to death by three men near the district SP’s office. Soon after the crime, the trio fled the spot.

Based on the SP’s order, Cheyyar police conducted intense vehicle checks during which they apprehended three persons near the court premises. All the three were brought to the SP’s office where they confessed to having killed Dinakaran. They told the police that they committed the murder to avenge the frequent alerts to officials by the whistle-blower on illegal sand mining activities.

The arrested were identified as Arun (35) and Arul (34), both of Cheyyar and Gopi (35) of Tiruvannamalai. A case has been registered and investigations are on.
