Mettur water level goes above 106 ft

According to the report from WRD, the reservoir received an inflow of 30,475 cubic feet per second (cusecs) at 8 am on Sunday, taking the water storage to 106.480 ft.

CHENNAI: The water level is on the rise in the State’s biggest reservoir following heavy inflow from Karnataka. At 8 am, on Sunday, the water level of Mettur reservoir reached 106 feet, as against its full storage capacity of 120 feet.

According to the report from WRD, the reservoir received an inflow of 30,475 cusecs (decreased from 33,148 cusecs) at 8 am on Sunday, taking the water storage to 106.480 ft. It accounts for 73,495 million cubic feet (mcft) as against the full storage level of the reservoir at 93.470 tmc.

The authorities discharged 2,500 cusecs of water downstream of the reservoir for irrigation, while 600 cusecs let out through the canal.

Since October 20, the water level has increased by 9.51 feet (60,896 mcft) from 96.58 feet. Meanwhile, the water level in the 14,139 tanks across the State has also increased significantly in the last couple of days.

Of the total tanks, more than 1,477 tanks have brimmed with water. Of them, 392 tanks were in Kanniyakumari, 315 were in Madurai, 135 were in Sivaganga, and 103 were in Pudukkottai districts. More than 2,300 tanks have water above 75 per cent of storage level.
