VIT playing important role in taking technology to farmers: UGC Chairman

Prof Ved Prakash, chairman, University Grants Commission, said that universities like VIT play a key role in improving the quality of profession of the people such as artisans and farmers. 

He also stated that universities should inculcate a sense of responsibility towards society among their students. “We need universities which can provide talented workforce to the world. We need universities which are connected to the society. If universities did not bring about a change in the life of people, they are not fulfilling their mandate,” he said. 

Dr G Viswanathan, VIT Chancellor, urged the framers of the New Education Policy to bring in liberalisation of higher education in such a way that high-performing institutions were recognised. He suggested the government to introduce a single window system for universities to get licences for the construction of new buildings. 

Dr Anand A Samuel, ViceChancellor of VIT, said that the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Ministry of Human Resources Development has recently ranked the VIT University as the number one private institution in higher education sector in the country.
