Stating that the outlet costed around Rs 50 lakhs, would be located at the junction of the Katpadi-Chittor road and the Ammundi road. He said that about eight workers who were selected will be given a month’s training by IOC after which, they can work full time on daily wages from Rs 35 to Rs 500.

“While the mill provided the land, the facility was set up by the oil major,” he said. Asked if the workers were part of the mill’s workforce, Anandan said, “The mill currently has only 143 employees, down from its original work force of 343. As vacancies of retired employees were not filled, the mill hired former hands on a daily wage basis during operations.” In addition to the fuel outlet, the mill has also started a farmers information centre at an estimated cost of Rs 20 lakh. “This centre would provide cane farmers all sugar cane cultivation related information free of cost. As the latest technicalinnovations to increase cane yields would take time to reach farmers normally, they would be able to get the same from the newly created centre,” Anandan added.
