Two dead as train hits car near Siruthavur

Two women were killed and two men were grievously injured when the car in which they were travelling was hit by the Salem-Virudhachalam passenger train at an unmanned level crossing near Siruthavur station on Friday.

Southern Railway sources said the accident occurred between Chinna Salem and Pukkiravari stations at around 12.15 pm. 

The train was stopped immediately following the incident, that involved a Maruthi Swift car at Level Crossing (LC) gate 101.

The Station Master of Chinna Salem and Pukkiravari immediately alerted the 108-ambulance. 

The medical team of the ambulance declared both the women as dead. They were identified as Chitra (48) and Kavya (21). 

The two injured persons, Vetrivel (56) and Maheshwaran (19), were admitted to the Government General Hospital at Kallakurichi and Mundiyapakkam. All the victims were members of the same family.
