According to AMMK functionaries, Dhinakaran, who was upset at the results of the LS polls and Assembly by-elections, pulled up the secretaries of the districts where the party fared poorly. During the discussion, he obtained the views of all district secretaries on the reason behind the loss and asked them to furnish the polling figures for every polling booth.

Dhinakaran asked the district secretaries to work hard in the coming elections and to prove that they were the real descendants of the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, they said.

The AMMK drew a blank by losing out to the DMK and AIADMK in all the 38 Lok Sabha constituencies and 22 Assembly constituencies. While it was expected that the AMMK would split the votes of the ruling AIADMK, the party did not even come third in all the constituencies, having finished behind the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM).

Under the circumstance, the AMMK held its first official meeting following the elections in which all district secretaries, all candidates who contested the recent elections and key party functionaries, including AMMK Theni LS constituency candidate Thanga Tamilselvan and AMMK Perambur MLA candidate Vetrivel, took part.
