In a statement welcoming the move wholeheartedly, Alagiri said the decision has made the Congress national president a bridge connecting the north and south, adding that it was representative of the language, culture and tradition of southern states.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contesting two seats during the 2014 general elections, Alagiri said the BJP leaders, who accepted the dual candidature of Modi then, have no right to question Rahul Gandhi now.

Remarking that the victory of Congress in Uttar Pradesh would be a turning point in national politics, Alagiri said the whole country was duty bound to appreciate Rahul’s effort to bridge the north and south.

He also added that the decision would receive an overwhelming public support and fetch greatvictory to the Congress-led alliance in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
