A senior official from State Council of Education Research and Training — the nodal agency for preparing new syllabus — said that constant changes in social, economic, demographic spheres, urbanisation, and technology has become the order of the day. 

“The world has changed drastically since the implementation of National Curriculum Framework of 2005,” said the official.

He added, “What is being taught to students in schools need to be updated with the times. Hence, the government has decided to completely revamp the curriculum of school education every five years.” 

To implement this, the government would have to issue orders, constitute committees and sub-committees exclusively to work on the revised curriculum, syllabus and textbooks, the official said.

He also said that handbooks would be given to teachers and workbooks would be distributed among students in the revised syllabus. And, both students and teachers would be encouraged to use the internet and mobile applications for learning.

“The students of Tamil Nadu need to be at par with those across the country. That’s why the government is planning to address this matter on a war-footing,” said the senior official.
