TN tests 25,463 samples in a single day, corona count crosses 50,000

The government bulletin also said 48 Covid patients lost their lives taking the death toll to 576.

Tamil Nadu witnessed its sharpest rise yet of COVID-19 patients on Wednesday, with a record 2,174 cases, taking the total tally to 50,193, the state Health Department said.

Chennai saw the highest number of COVID-19 infections at 1,276 taking the total tally to 35,556 and is followed by Chengalpattu (3,271), Tiruvallur (2,037), Kancheepuram (864), Thiruvannamalai (816) and Cuddalore (645).

48 patients succumbed to coronavirus on Wednesday alone, increasing the state's death toll to 576.

The statement said 842 patients were discharged from various hospitals, taking the total to 27,624. The total number of active cases in Tamil Nadu now stands at 21,990.

A total of 25,463 samples were tested over the past 24 hours, which now total over 7.73 lakh.

The number of infected children in the age group 0-12 went up to 2,533.
