Tiruvannamalai temple watchman, mahout suspended for fraud

Two staff members of the Arunachaleswarar temple here were suspended following the detection of fraud in the sale of darshan tickets.

Temple officials said that the night guard, Premkumar, and mahout Singaram were into selling darshan tickets to many but not giving the same to some while still allowing the latter group to see the deity. HR&CE official R Gnanasekaran, upon a surprise inspection, found that some were in the line for darshan despite not having any ticket. Following an enquiry into the issue, the duo was suspended. Officials said that the duo were not regularised staff.
