Tiruchy remand prisoner ends life using shirt

A 32-year-old remand prisoner committed suicide inside the Tiruchy Central Prison on Monday. According to the police, the incident occurred in the B-Block of central prison. It is said, R Palanisamy, (32) the deceased was lodged in the prison in a case related to damaging public property in Manachanallur.

Sources said that Palanisamy was in a depressed state of mind and was not communicating normal with other prisoners. 

The accused was so desperate to get out of the prison and also applied for bail several times. However, all his bail applications were rejected. 

On Sunday, when all other prisoners were asleep, Palanisamy had reportedly tied his shirt to the rods of the window like a noose and hung himself. 

When other prisoners woke up the next morning, they were shocked to find him hanging and they immediately informed the officials. Senior police officials and RDO are expected to conduct an inquiry and submit a detailed report. Further investigations are on by KK Nagar police. Meanwhile, relatives of Palanisamy lodged a complaint with the City Police Commissioner.
