According to the police, Srinivasan (47) and wife Kala (41) lived in Otteripalayam village near Odugathur. On Friday, Srinivasan sold seven of his goats for Rs 70,000 at the Odugathur shanty and returned home.

When both were asleep at night, a six-member gang locked the front door of their house from the outside and then entered the house by breaking open the rear door.

Srinivasan, who went to check the source of the noise, was severely attacked by the gang. His wife Kala, who tried to help her husband, was also attacked and she too fainted. The thieves then escaped with 3 sovereigns of jewellery and the cash amounting to Rs 70,000. Locals on seeing the broken rear door of the couple’s house alerted the Veppankuppam police and rushed the duo to hospital. A case has been registered and investigations are on.
