Theatres in Tamil Nadu will not open anytime soon: Kadambur Raju

While Chennai city is recording maximum number of cases in the state, the adjacent districts are also seeing a surge in the past few days. Districts such as Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpet are seeing a new surge in infections.

Tamil Nadu's Information and Broadcasting Minister Kadambur Raju has stated that the theatres in Tamil Nadu will not open anytime soon, owing to surging COVID-19 spread in the state.

The Minister stated this while meeting the press near Kovilpatti. He added that the theatre owners will not see profit, if social-distancing is followed in theatres. 

Tamil Nadu has been detecting 4500+ Covid-19 cases in the past few days. While Chennai city is recording maximum number of cases in the state, the adjacent districts are also seeing a surge in the past few days. Districts such as Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpet are seeing a new surge in infections.  

The state saw 75 fatalities yesterday alone, with the total Covid tally crossing 1.8 lakh. 4,965 fresh cases were reported on Wednesday. About 78% of the new cases are from outside Chennai. Chennai reported 1,130 new infections on Wednesday. Tamil Nadu has around 113 Covid-19 testing facilities. About 1,26,670 have recovered from Covid so far in TN.
