“Many important decisions are likely in the Cabinet meeting. The decisions may be on new strategies to be adopted in Chennai to reduce COVID-19 spread and on transfer of senior bureaucrats in the State,” said an official at the Secretariat, on request of anonymity.

The COVID-19 positive cases have crossed 40,000 in the State and among them more than 70 percentage of the cases are in Chennai.

As the numbers are increasing across the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold a meeting through video conferencing with Chief Ministers on Wednesday and ahead of the meeting, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will consult with the 19- member medical expert team at Secretariat on Monday at 11 am.

Sources in the Secretariat said that usually the Cabinet meeting will be held two days after the meeting with medical experts, but owing to increasing COVID-19 positive cases, the Cabinet meeting is scheduled to be held immediately after the meeting with medical experts which indicates possibility of major decisions in the fight against the virus.
