Surappa tendered his resignation recently after the Higher Education Department appointed its principal secretary Mangat Ram Sharma as co-ordinator of the both TNEA and TNCA.

Sources from Anna University told DT Next that Surappa was very upset that he was not informed by the government about the new order, which accommodates Sharma.

"Our vice chancellor was not aware of the fact that the government had changed its order. Moreover, he came to know only very late, which irked him", a staff from Anna University said.

He said the resignation assumes significance as without Surappa's in volvement, the counselling cannot be conducted in Anna University in the coming academic year.

Meanwhile, accepting Surappa's resignation, the State government is likely to appoint K Vivekanandan as the new chairman for TNEA. Vivekanandan is currently serving as Commissioner of Technical Education.
