Meeting with the press, the Sterlite CEO Pankaj Kumar hopes that Thoothukudi plant will be reopened in an amicable manner. He said, "Sterlite has been committed and will stay committed in its social responsibility towards the Tuticorin citizens. It has been implementing many social welfare schemes.''

This, he said after commencing the Copper Vidyalaya under smart schools scheme. Under this plan 2,300 students will be benefited with a scholarship of Rs 2,80,00,000.
