SL navy damage nets of Rameswaram fishermen

The fishermen after being chased by Sri Lankan Navy returned to shores with a negligible amount of catch.

CHENNAI: In the latest of the mid-ocean face off between Sri Lankan Navy and Tamil Nadu fishermen, around 1500 anglers were chased from catching fish in the Katchatheevu waters.

Fishers in over 400 trawlers ventured into the sea on Monday and were apprehended by the Sri Lankan navy personnel, who surrounded the place with 3 patrol vessels. While all the fishermen were sent back to shore, they stopped two boats and tore the nets before discarding it in the water.

The fishermen after being chased by Sri Lankan navy returned to shores with a negligible amount of catch. They had requested the central and state governments to arrive at a long-term solution.
