Sivaganga police nab notorious criminal after opening fire, 22 kg ganja seized

CHENNAI: A 24 –year old notorious offender was nabbed in Sivaganga after a cop opened fire on him in self defense when he went on to attack the police.

It occurred at Kalakanmoi village where the police stepped up vehicle checks.

The accused has been identified as S. Akilan of Katchanatham.

He is hospitalised with a gunshot wound to his right knee.

Kalayarkovil Sub Inspector of Police Gugan came under attack while checking a car, in which four persons including Akilan, were travelling.

Acting on a tip off, the police conducted vehicle check at Kalakanmoi and seized 22 kg of ganja from the vehicle.

Three other accomplices fled the scene. After having nabbed the offender, the police seized ganja and the vehicle.

Akilan is a history sheeter, against whom 16 cases of several crimes occurred in parts of Sivaganga and its neighboring areas.
