SFI seeks CBI probe into medico’s death

The body of a medical student, who died under mysterious circumstances in New Delhi, was flown down to Coimbatore on Thursday night and taken to his home town Paarapalayam near Tirupur by ambulance. His body was taken in a procession for about two kilometres on Friday.

President of Tamil Maanila Congress GK Vasan and Housing Minister Udumalai K Radhakrishnan paid

their last respects. Vasan urged the state government to open counselling centres to help students, particularly those pursuing medicine in other states. Local party functionaries from the DMK, Congress and student wing representatives joined the procession and raised slogans urging the state government to take immediate measures to ensure the safety of Tamil Nadu students in the capital.

Announcing a fasting protest in Tirupur on Saturday, members of the Students Federation of India (SFI) sought a CBI enquiry into the death.

Sarath Prabhu, a post graduate student at the University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) in New Delhi, was found dead in Delhi. Parents of the boy suspect foul play as they claim that the body bore scars on his neck and blood stains in the head.
