Sasikala release on January 27, says lawyer

Former aide of late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and AMMK leader VK Sasikala is expected to be released from the Parappana Agrahara prison in Bengaluru on January 27 after serving term in connection with the disproportionate assets case, her counsel revealed at the Madras High Court on Thursday.

The HC adjourned a plea relating to certain discrepancies in the I-T returns filed by Sasikala during 1994-95 on the submission of her counsel that certain clarifications need to be obtained following her likely release.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh police arrested ‘Katta’ Bhaskar, father-in-law of Vivek Jayaraman, head of Jaya TV, in connection with red sanders smuggling. Bhaskar has been picked up as there were 21 non- bailable warrants pending against him for smuggling red sanders. Vivek is son of Ilavarasi, who is currently lodged in Bengaluru jail along with Sasikala, who is her late husband’s sister.
