Sasikala gives 70-page reply to Election Commission

Jailed AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala has sent a 70-page reply to the recent Election Commission (EC) notice, on March 10.

Sasikala's reply stated that she was chosen AIADMK General Secretary without any rule being violated and that the complainants were the very persons who proposed her name to the post. She was to give her reply on or before March 10 and so sent her reply to New Delhi through her lawyers, party sources said.

The EC’s response is now eagerly awaited. It may be recalled that the O Panneerselvam faction had filed a complaint before the EC more than a month ago, through its Rajya Sabha MP Dr V Maitreyan in which they claimed that Sasikala’s election to the post of General Secretary was against the rules as she was not chosen by the party rank and file but had only been nominated by 1,000-member strong General Council.

Hence, she was not empowered to remove or induct new office bearers, they contended. Sasikala’s reply sent through her relative and party deputy General Secretary TTV Dinakaran was not accepted by the EC. It is in this scenario that she replied to the EC notice in her personal capacity.
