Rs 3,384 cr to modernise irrigation infra

As part of modenisation of irrigation programmes in the Cauvery Delta region a fund of Rs 3,384 crore has been allocated, said Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami in Tiruvarur on Friday.

Addressing reporters after a review meeting, the Chief Minister said, that the state government has ensured water availability for irrigation till the tail end areas in the Cauvery Delta region. This was possible only after the proper desilting that revived several waterbodies across the region and it helped to save water for future use too.

He said several developmental projects have been made in the districts like Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Thanjavur for the benefit of farmers. Among them, a fund of Rs 3,384 crore has been allotted for the revival of irrigation programmes in the region. Similarly, he laid the foundation stone for various developmental projects in Tiruvarur and Thanjavur districts.

The CM also announced that a food park would be established in Tiruvarur at a cost of Rs 10 crore. Similarly, the state has been considering the proposal and recommendation of the Food Minister R Kamaraj to establish agriculture related industry in Tiruvarur.
