Rs 1L seized from Andipatti taluk office

Rs 1 lakh was seized in unaccounted cash from Taluk Supply Office, which is located on the premises of Andipatti Taluk office in Theni district, on Saturday during a raid.

The joint surprise check was carried out by Madurai Inspection Cell and Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) led by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sathyaseelan. It began around 1 pm and continued till 5 pm, said inspector E Sundararajan of DVAC.


After verifying the documents in the office, cash found was considered unaccounted for. About 117 fair price shops — which supplies essential commodities through public distribution system — had been functioning in parts of village panchayats and town panchayats under the limits of Andipatti taluk office.


Over 74,000 family card holders had been relying on these shops where more than 80 workers are employed, sources said. They added that enquiry is being carried out on some officials in the Taluk Supply Office. The seized cash would be handed over to District Treasury office and later to Chief Judicial Magistrate court for further proceedings, sources said.
