The premier investigation agency has submitted a petition in the Principal District Sessions Court in Coimbatore on Thursday that it has found no evidence for charges of assault by bar Nagaraj, an AIADMK member. He was part of a gang that allegedly issued death threats and assaulted the brother of the victim demanding to withdraw the police case in connection with the sexual assault incident.
After a young college girl blew the lid off by filing a complaint on February 24 last year, the Pollachi rural police arrested five persons; Tirunavukarasu, Sabarirajan, Sathish, Vasantha Kumar and Manivannan. The five men took her in a car and sexually assaulted her. The police investigations later revealed that it was not an isolated incident as they have sexually exploited several other girls, videographed the act and extorted money.
Later on, four others including ‘bar’ Nagaraj, an AIADMK local functionary, were arrested for assaulting the brother of the victim two days after the victim filed a complaint with the Pollachi police. Nagaraj was expelled from AIADMK for his involvement in the sexual scandal. Following a national outrage demanding a detailed probe, the CBI took over the investigations from CB-CID. The charge sheet in the case was filed in May.
The court has posted the hearing in the case on February 6. Meanwhile advocate Gopalakrishnan, who is the counsel for the victim’s brother, said that a petition will be moved in court against CBI dropping the assault case.
