Sources said that Modi, who will be attending an event in Puducherry on the same day, had agreed to participate in the event. As per the tentative schedule, the Prime Minister will arrive in Chennai by a special flight at 5.25pm, and would take a helicopter to reach INS Adyar at 5.45 pm.

The scheme will be launched at Kalaivanar Arangam here on Saturday evening. Under it, the state government will provide a subsidy of Rs 25,000 to help women buy two-wheelers. The scheme was first announced by Jayalalithaa, while releasing the AIADMK’s 2016 Assembly election manifesto.

Greater Chennai Corporation started issuing forms for the scheme on January 22. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had earlier said one lakh women would get the concession every year.
