Partially-charred body of boy found near Tiruvannamalai

Police in Vettavalam near Tiruvannamalai have registered a case and are conducting an investigation after the half-burnt body of a 12-year-old boy was found on the banks of an irrigation tank on Friday.

Passers-by found the body after noticing smoke emanating from an irrigation tank at Aavoor near Vettavalam. When they went to check, they found the half-burnt body of a boy, believed to be aged around 12 years. The body was found in the midst of chicken feathers and waste while a can of kerosene was also found nearby, police said. 

They immediately informed the Vettavalam police who rushed to the spot and sent the body to the Tiruvannamalai government medical college hospital for post-mortem examination. SP MR Sibi Chakravarthy also visited the spot. Fingerprint experts took the boy’s prints while a police dog brought to the spot ran a short distance and then stopped. Further investigation is under way.
