Speaking to media, M Ilavenil, the outfit’s general secretary, said that 420 persons hailing from areas such as Thondamuthur, Annur, Periyanaickenpalayam, Karumathampatti and Mettupalayam have converted to Islam.

Stating that the conversion has happened following the wall collapse incident in Nadur, Mettupalayam, which killed 17 persons belonging to the Scheduled Caste, Ilavenil, however, said that none of the converts was from Nadur village.

The outfit had earlier claimed that several villagers from Nadur have decided to give up Hinduism and embrace Islam allegedly against the injustice meted out to them in the wall collapse incident.

However, Ilavenil said that the conversion could not take place as members of the Hindu organisations and police were camping there to prevent such move.
