Onion prices are going through a steady rise and the vegetable is getting exported from Egypt.

This move was condemned because of the timing, such export should have been planned preemptively of heavy rains in states that produce onions, critics of the move say.

Meanwhile, State Food Minister Kamaraj assured that onions would be sold in ration shops soon if the trend continues and said onion price rise is temporary.

2.85 lakh metric tonnes of grain has been accumulated in the past 22 days, added Kamaraj.
