No invite for Republic day function, Vellore MLA pulls up Corporation chief

The Republic Day celebrations began on a serious note at the corporation here on Friday as DMK MLA P Karthikeyan expressed his displeasure over not being invited to the function.

But the MLA arrived at the premises just when the flag was about to be hoisted and demanded to know why he was not invited despite him being an elected representative.

Apology

While the two-day old commissioner B Vijayakumar tendered an apology, Karthikeyan replied that the fault was with his subordinates and not on him. At the end of the meet, Karthikeyan also pulled up the officials present at the spot.

In another event, Collector S A Raman hoisted the tricolour on the ramparts of the historic Vellore Fort after garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the entrance. Later participating in a function at the Nethaji Stadium, he distributed government welfare measures worth Rs 1.32 crore to 70 beneficiaries and handed over exemplary service certificates to 151 personnel from different departments.

In Tiruvannamalai, Collector KS Kandasamy hoisted the national flag to mark the occasion. After inspecting the guard of honour by police personnel, he presented exemplary service medals to government officials and handed over welfare measures to beneficiaries.
