Mutharaiyar statue installed sans nod, Manachanallur tense

Tension prevailed in Manachanallur after the statue of Perumpidugu Mutharaiyar was installed without permission and the police who went to the spot covered the statue on Friday.

On Friday morning the residents of Tirupattur panchayat near Manachanallur saw a statue of Perumbidugu Muthuraiyar installed, it was learnt. A Mutharayar flag was also erected close to the statue. The famous Brammapureeshwarar temple is also located in the particular place.

Since more number of Dalits reside in the particular panchayat, the statue installation created ripples among the people and they passed on the information to the Suruganur police who rushed to the spot along with the Manachanallur Tahsildhar Murugesan and conducted an inquiry.

The locals informed that the statue was installed by the Tirupattur panchayat president Murugan arranged to install the statue. Since the statue installation would create law and order issue, the police covered the statue with a cloth and organised a meeting with the village heads to avert any untoward incidents.

Meanwhile, a heavy posse of police has been posted on the spot to avoid any incidents.
