‘Muslims not victims of persecution’

BJP MP Subramanian Swamy on Sundayjustified the exclusion of Muslims from the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) by saying that “Muslims in neighbouring countries of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh do not undergo religious persecution.

They need not come to India and so they were not included in the list of communities to grant citizenship under CAA.”


He also said that during the Congress rule more than 30,000 Muslims have entered the country and they will be given citizenship in CAA. “I do not understand the problem in passing CAA,” said Swamy.


He further said that during the reign of Congress those who could not tolerate the rule has escaped to neighbouring countries and they were desperate to return to India. They gave representation to us and based on their representation a clause which stated that those who returned before December 31, 2014, will be given citizenship, was included.
