Music University renamed after Jayalalithaa

The state government passed an order renaming Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts University after the late chief minister J Jayalalithaa.

The announcement to rename the University was made by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami in February and the order was passed by the state government. According to the order, the recommendations of the Commissioner of Art and Culture has been considered and the university has been renamed as ‘Dr J Jayalalithaa Music and Fine Arts University.’


This is the first major announcement where the name of an institution or a center was named after Jayalalithaa, since her demise.
