On February 7, Murugan began the indefinite fast demanding the release of all the convicts in the Rajiv case as they were incarcerated for the past 27 years. A few days back, his wife Nalini, also a convict in the same case, began a fast extending her support. As their health condition deteriorated, both were taken to the jail hospital. But the duo refused to undergo treatment. So, they were shifted back to their cells.

Pughzhendhi, who met Murugan in the prison on Wednesday, said that his client has decided to donate his body to the Vellore Government Medical College Hospital in case he succumbed during the fast. Murugan while submitting a letter earlier regarding his indefinite fast also gave an declaration to donate his body to the government medical college hospital.
