CHENNAI: Air connectivity from Chennai to Madurai and Tiruchy has been expanded, with airlines introducing additional services and re-deploying smaller ATR aircraft on key sectors. The increase in daily flight frequency has brought relief to passengers who had been facing seat shortages and limited timing options.
IndiGo has reinstated multiple ATR (smaller aircraft) services between Chennai and Madurai, significantly raising the number of daily flights. At present, the airline operates eight flights from Chennai to Madurai and eight return services, totalling 16 flights per day on the sector. In addition, Air India operates two daily flights, taking the overall count to 18 services a day between the two cities.
Flights from Chennai to Madurai are scheduled at 6.10 am, 8.15 am, 10.20 am, 12.15 pm, 2.40 pm, 4.15 pm, 6.05 pm and 8.05 pm, with return services operating till late night.
On the Chennai–Tiruchy route, IndiGo has introduced an additional ATR service in the afternoon, increasing the total number of daily flights from four to six. Morning and evening services continue to be operated using Airbus larger aircraft, while the newly added midday flight is operated with an ATR aircraft, offering more flexibility to travellers.
