Milk truck collides head on with car near Sirkazhi, 3 of family killed

Three members of a family were killed and four others injured in a road mishap near Sirkazhi in Nagapattinam district in the wee hours on Friday, the police said.

According to sources, Saravanan (42), who was working in Dubai came down to his native for annual holidays and was scheduled to return on Friday. Accordingly, his parents Somasundaran (65) and Santhi (60), Saravanan’s wife Sumithra (38), their son Puvaneswaran (14), relative Senthil Kumar (40) and his mother Annapurani (60) along with Senthil Kumar’s daughter Saishree (8), went to see off Saravanan at the Chennai airport in a car. Senthil Kumar was driving the vehicle. After seeing Saravanan off, the others were returning to Sirkazhi when a milk truck bound for Chidambaram from Mayiladuthurai collided head on with their car. Somasundaram, Santhi and Sumithra were crushed to death while others sustained severe injuries. On information, the Sirkazhi police rushed to the spot and sent the injured to hospital. A case has been registered.
